Timotej Jankoは、写真を学んだのち、映画撮影を学びました。彼の制作は、カメラ・オブスクラ、8mmフィルム、銀塩プリントなど、光に感応するさまざまなプロセスに取り組むものであり、写真、映像、スポークンワードといったメディアのあいだを流動的に行き来しています。アナログメディアがもつ物質性や不完全さを用いながら、彼は具体的なものと抽象的なもののあいだを揺れ動くイメージを構築しています。
現在、旅を続けながら、その移動のなかで作品の素材を集めています。彼の作品は、生きられた経験への意識的な気づき、時間の知覚、反復、習慣の形成、自らの意志と向き合うこと、そして記憶の捉えがたさへの継続的な関心を反映しています。
Arts Itoyaでの滞在制作において、彼の実践は、日本の概念である「間」、「幽玄」、「もののあはれ」、「侘び寂び」と対話しながら展開しています。これらの概念を、現在制作中の作品群へと探求・取り込み、その成果は今後東京で開催される展覧会へとつながっていきます。
Timotej Janko studied photography and later cinematography. His practice engages a range of light-sensitive processes including camera obscura, 8mm film, and silver gelatin printing through which he moves fluidly between photographic, moving image, and spoken word media. Working with the material qualities and imperfections of analogue media, he constructs images oscillating between the tangible and the abstract.
Currently traveling and using this ongoing movement as a means of gathering source material, his work reflects a sustained interest in the conscious awareness of lived experience, the perception of time, repetition, habit formation, working with one’s own will, and the elusive nature of memory.
During his residency at Arts Itoya, his practice enters into dialogue with Japanese concepts of ma (間), yūgen (幽玄), mono no aware (物の哀れ), and wabi-sabi (侘寂), which he explores and incorporates into his current body of work, leading to an upcoming exhibition in Tokyo.
