ARTS ITOYA（佐賀県武雄市）での滞在制作中、スチュワートは2026年10月にアメリカ・Albuquerqueで初演予定の1時間にわたるマルチメディア・ダンスパフォーマンス『Grey Zone』の完成に取り組んでいます。
『Grey Zone』は、ダンス、音楽、映像投影、モーションキャプチャ、自作電子機器、そしてライブメディアシステムを組み合わせた作品です。身体、映像、テクノロジーがリアルタイムに相互作用し合うパフォーマンス空間を創り出します。
ARTS ITOYA滞在中は、音響、アニメーション、オリジナルの照明システム、そして作品に登場する小型のロボット合唱隊オブジェなど、パフォーマンスに必要な技術的・映像的要素の最終調整を行っています。
『Grey Zone』は、ユーモア、儀式性、不条理さ、不安感のあいだを行き来しながら、キャンプ旅行が降霊会や生存のための儀式へと変貌し、崩れゆく世界との奇妙な遭遇へとつながっていく物語を描いています。

Stewart Skylar Copeland is a transdisciplinary artist, Assistant Professor of Experimental Art & Technology at the University of New Mexico, and Director of UNM ARTSLab.

During his residency at ARTS ITOYA in Takeo, Japan, Stewart is completing work on Grey Zone, a one-hour multimedia dance performance that will premiere in Albuquerque, New Mexico in October. The piece combines dance, music, projection, motion capture, custom-built electronics, and live media systems to create a performance environment where bodies, images, and technologies act on one another in real time.

While at ARTS ITOYA, Stewart is focusing on finalizing several technical and media elements for the performance, including sound, animation, custom lighting systems, and a set of small robotic choir objects that will become part of the final work. Grey Zone moves between humor, ritual, absurdity, and unease, imagining a world where a camping trip becomes a séance, a survival ritual, and a strange encounter with a world coming apart.
