見えざるもの
本作は、人間と自然との関係、とりわけアニミズムの伝統や、そこにおける聖なる場所や物との関わりについての探求を続けるものです。武雄のArts Itoyaでの滞在中、私は九州の風景、そしてそれらを形づくってきた神道の伝統に惹かれました。自然界には目に見えない力が宿っているという考えに惹かれたのです。

私は、風景の中にも、聖なる物の中にも存在する「見えざる力」という考えに引き寄せられました。そこから、日本の三種の神器――剣、鏡、勾玉――へと関心が向かいました。これら三つの聖なる物は、人々の目に触れることなく隠され、誰にも知られることなく、想像の中にのみ存在しています。私たちはそれらを内包する風景を見ることはできますが、その風景も、そこにある物も、目には見えない何かを宿しています。

本展では、三種の神器に対する私自身の解釈とともに、聖なる土地としての九州の風景から着想を得た二つの壁面レリーフを展示します。
そのどちらにおいても、聖なるものは、隠されたままであることによって姿を現します。

Unseen

This work continues my exploration of the relationship between humans and nature, especially in animistic traditions and their sacred spaces and objects. During my residency at Arts Itoya in Takeo, I have been drawn to the landscapes of Kyushu and to the Shinto tradition that shaped them — to the idea that the natural world is home to invisible forces.

I was drawn by the idea of invisible force, both in landscape and in sacred objects. This led me to the Imperial Treasures of Japan: the sword, the mirror, the jewel. Three sacred objects kept hidden from the public, known to no one, existing only in imagination. We can see the landscapes that house them, but both the landscapes and the objects hold something that cannot be seen.

This exhibition presents my interpretation of the three imperial treasures alongside two wall reliefs inspired by the landscapes of Kyushu as sacred terrain.

In both, the sacred reveals itself by remaining hidden.
