Sally Boon Matthews is a British-born visual artist and educator based in New York City. Through stitching, text, mark-making, and video, she explores how the body speaks through material and time, and how language, in its tactile and durational forms, becomes a way of touching the world and being touched in return.
Her practice unfolds through a slow choreography of gestures, unravelling, mending, and layering, where traditional techniques meet ephemeral materials to examine the porous boundaries between memory, matter, and meaning. Acts of making become acts of listening: to history, silence, and what resists articulation. She approaches historical residue not as a fixed record but as a site of vulnerability and re-imagination, where material and temporal forms of language create space for reflection, care, and the complexity of being.
