彼女にとってインスピレーションの源は、予期せぬ場所、曖昧なもの、心揺さぶるもの、あるいは混乱を招くものなど、あらゆる場所に潜んでいます。紙やキャンバスの上に何かを捉える作業は困難を極め、そのプロセスは予測不能であり、結果は常に議論の余地を残します。しかし、まさにこのプロセスに向き合うことこそが、彼女を突き動かす原動力となっているのです。
画家や文学、風景、そして（見知らぬ）人々からインスピレーションを受ける一方で、彼女が究極的に関心を寄せているのは、私たち全員が共有する「人間の在り方（ヒューマン・コンディション）」です。30年以上にわたりアフリカやアジアで活動してきた経験も手伝い、彼女の興味は、予測不能なものや未知なるものへと向けられています。
彼女はポートレート（肖像画）、静物画、風景画を手がけていますが、最近ではセラミック（陶芸）や版画の探求も始めています。セラミックにおいては、「形」が単なる「装飾」に留まることなく、いかにして絵画的な多層性と融合できるかを探求しています。また、切り絵を用いた版画の手法で、海の生物のシリーズにも取り組んでいます。
日本滞在中は、これまでの技法、スタイル、主題にとらわれない、木版画の新たな解釈や制作方法を模索することに関心を寄せています。
Jups is an artist based in Amsterdam. For her, inspiration can come from anywhere, unexpected, unclear, moving, and confusing. The process of capturing something on paper or canvas is challenging, the process unpredictable and the result endlessly debatable. It is the process of this engagement that drives her. While painters, literature, landscapes and (unknown) people inspire her, it is ultimately the human condition that we all have in common. It is the unpredictable and unknown which interests her – amongst others, the result of working in Africa and Asia for over thirty years.
She makes portraits, still lives and landscapes and more recently she started exploring ceramics and printing. She likes exploring how ‘form’ in ceramics can meet painting in more layers moving away from ‘decoration’. She has been working on a series of sea animals in printing using paper cuts.
In Japan, she is interested in exploring alternative ways of interpreting and making woodblock prints using different techniques, styles and subjects.
