Hannah Massey（ハンナ・マッセイ）は、オーストラリア東海岸出身のミクストメディア・アーティストです。彼女の制作は、文化的ナラティブ（語り）に着目し、社会的・精神的・政治的に重要な複雑なテーマを考察するための手段としての「ストーリーテリング」の根源的な役割を探求しています。
近年はセラミック（陶芸）を中心に制作を行い、聖遺物や記念碑の歴史に焦点を当てた研究を深めてきました。その成果として、個展の開催や、大規模な陶による公共彫刻作品の制作へと結実しています。
現在は絵画へと回帰し、気候変動という文脈の中で、個人・社会・自然環境の関係性をテーマにした新作に取り組んでいます。
ARTS ITOYAでのレジデンス期間中、ハンナは地域に根ざした物語、とりわけ物理的な環境の中に痕跡や象徴として存在するローカルストーリーを探求し、人々やコミュニティがそれらとどのように関わっているのかを観察・リサーチすることを目指しています。
Hannah Massey is a mixed media artist from the east coast of Australia. Her practice explores cultural narratives and the fundamental role of storytelling as a vehicle for discussing complex ideas of social, spiritual and political importance.
In recent years she has been working with ceramics, focussing on the history of relics and monuments, which culminated in a solo exhibition and a large scale ceramic public art sculpture.
In a return to painting, she is currently developing new work based on the relationship between individuals, societies and their natural environment in the context of a changing climate.
During her residency at Arts Itoya, Hannah aims to explore the local stories especially those that have roots or representation in the physical environment and observe the way that people and communities interact with them.
