Laurenn McCubbin is an installation artist, experimental documentarian & illustrator.
Currently, she splits her time between being an Associate Professor and Chair of Comics & Narrative Practice at the Columbus College of Art & Design, and freelance comics editing. She’s drawn comics and graphic novels for McSweeneys, Marvel Comics, Vertigo, Last Gasp and Dark Horse. She was the Art Director for Image Comics, and the co-creator of the graphic novel RENT GIRL (with writer Michelle Tea). She graduated from the Masters of Fine Art in Documentary and Experimental Art program at Duke University.
My project:
I want to use my residence at Arts Itoya to concentrate on material exploration. My latest encompasses a physical exploration of how to engage narrative in an installation space and the use of a miniature architectural setting. By using a city as my framework, I am applying a Deluzian critique of striated societal spaces in the symbolic nature of an urban environment, and I am exploring the interplay between architecture, status, the impetus towards consumption, and the spectacle of the late capitalism project.
