ダニエル・ロシュクーストは、オーストラリア・ブリスベン出身のビジュアルアーティストです。
30年以上にわたり制作活動を続けており、表現主義の影響を受けた作品には、自然や田園風景、海辺の風景への深い愛情が表れています。
彼女の作品は自然からインスピレーションを得ており、抽象表現やマークメイキング（線や形による記号的表現）、実験的な手法に強い関心を持っています。特に、模様、線、色彩を使って空間を生み出すことに魅力を感じており、さまざまなマークメイキングのプロセスを通じて制作を行っています。
彼女の着想の出発点は自然環境であることが多いものの、布の一部やタイルの模様、影の形、人物など、多岐にわたることもあります。重要なのは、それをどのように空間として解釈し、感覚や観察を必ずしも具象的ではない方法でどのように表現できるかという点です。
最近では、観察力を磨くために一貫して集中したドローイングの時間を設けており、そこから得られた気づきをもとに、さらに絵画作品へと展開させています。
今回のARTS ITOYAでの滞在制作では、このプロセスをさらに深め、ドローイング素材や絵具を用いて、自身の直感を頼りにドローイング、絵画、そして場合によってはコラージュ作品も制作する予定です。彼女は、この土地に触れて得た感覚や反応を、自分なりに最も適したかたちで表現していきます。
Danielle Rochecouste is a visual artist from Brisbane, Australia.
A practising artist for more than 30 years, her expressionist-influenced works show a deep love of nature and rural and coastal landscapes.
Her work is inspired by nature with a keen interest in abstraction, mark making and experimentation. She is particularly interested in exploring pattern, line and colour to create spaces, using different processes in mark making.
Whilst she is generally inspired by the natural environment, the subject starting point could also be as varied as a piece of fabric, a patterned tile, a cast shadow or a figure. The key is the interpretation into a space and exploring how a sensation or observation can be translated in a way that is not necessarily representational.
Most recently, she has been spending consistent and focussed time on drawing to hone her observation skills and then use this as a basis for further work, extending the response through painting.
This will be explored further during the residency at Arts Itoya. She plans to work intuitively using drawing materials and paint to create drawings, paintings and potentially collage, that best interpret her response to the area.
