Shelby Prindaville（シェルビー・プリンダヴィル）は科学と多様な芸術分野を融合させ、自然とのつながりと保全意識を促すエコロジカル・アーティストです。彼女の創作は、自然界が持つ繊細さとたくましさの美しさを中心に据えています。植物学、化学、生態学、環境科学と倫理、園芸学、材料科学、動物学といった科学分野が、彼女の作品と深く関わっています。素材が持つ概念的・美的な力も重要な要素であり、地元産や非伝統的なメディアを通じて、完成した作品をその起源へと結びつけています。
プリンダヴィルの作品は、京都、山梨市、マドリード、アテネ、ブエノスアイレス、ボストン、ニューヨーク、フィラデルフィア、ワシントンD.C.、ミネアポリス、オマハ、カンザスシティ、セントルイス、バトンルージュ、フォートワース、ロサンゼルスなど、国内外で幅広く展示されてきました。また、オンラインでの発表も行っています。彼女は世界自然保護基金（WWF）のツアーアーティストに選ばれ、米国の獣医学部で初となるアーティスト・イン・レジデンス（ルイジアナ州立大学獣医学部）にも招かれました。さらに、ジョン・ポイマン博士と共に、新しいポリマークレイ「3P クイックキュア・クレイ」の開発にも携わっています。
現在プリンダヴィルは、モーニングサイド大学で美術学科長、ヘレン・レヴィット＆エプリー・アートギャラリーのディレクター、そして美術教授を務めるほか、アイオワ州スーシティにあるスーシティ・アートセンターの理事も兼任しています。
Shelby Prindaville is an ecological artist combining science and a wide range of art disciplines to encourage a more connected and conservation-focused approach. She creates art centered on the beautiful fragility and resilience of the natural world. The scientific fields of botany, chemistry, ecology, environmental sciences and ethics, horticulture, materials science, and zoology are all particularly relevant to her work. The conceptual and aesthetic power of materiality is an important facet, connecting finished artwork to its origin through local and sometimes non-traditional media.
Prindaville’s artwork has been exhibited internationally and throughout the United States, including Kyoto, Yamanashi City, Madrid, Athens, Buenos Aires, Boston, New York City, Philadelphia, Washington D.C., Minneapolis, Omaha, Kansas City, St. Louis, Baton Rouge, Fort Worth, and Los Angeles, as well as online. She has been selected as a World Wildlife Fund tour artist and was invited to be the first-ever artist in residence at a veterinary school in the United States (at the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine). She also helped develop a new form of polymer clay, 3P QuickCure Clay, with Dr. John Pojman.
Prindaville serves as the Art Department Chair, Director of the Helen Levitt and Eppley Art Galleries, and Professor of Art at Morningside University and on the Board of Trustees for the Sioux City Art Center in Sioux City, Iowa.
