David McGovern is a video artist and educator based in Ireland. His work centres on inner experiences; using moving image to facilitate reflection and speculate on our future.
David studied at University of the Arts London, where he is now a visiting lecturer. He runs a variety of workshops that reimagine our relationship to film. Thinking Through Moving Image uses video-making as a tool to unblock the thought process, much like you might use a sketchbook to draw idly. He has delivered this session in a variety of environments outside the university, including schools and studios in Nepal and Japan.
In his residency at Arts Itoya he is making an experimental sci-fi short exploring memory, trauma and forgetting. ‘The Machine Forgets’, shot between Nepal and Japan, imagines a device that allows us to remove unwanted memories. Alongside his art practice, he will continue teaching online and delivering art workshops locally.
